Stewed Cabbage with Ground Chicken

This is usually my lunch…a low cal…fairly high protein content and quite filling


Cabbage – 200 gms

Ground or Mince Chicken- 125 gms

Onion – 1 no

Tomato – 1 no

Green Chilli – 2 nos

Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp

Coriander powder – 2 tsp

Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp

Juice of one lemon

Salt to taste

Coconut Oil – 2 tsp


Pour oil in the pan and saute the mince chicken till it turns white. Add salt and all the above except the cabbage . Mix well…cover and cook covered on a medium flame for about 5 minutes. Keep stirring in between so that the chicken gets evenly cooked. After 5 minutes add the cabbage and mix well. Again cover and cook for 5 minutes. No need to add water at any stage. Both the chicken and cabbage will release moisture while being cooked. At the end of 5 minutes remove the lid and keep stirring on a medium flame till the moisture dries up. Remove from flame and top it with lime juice and give a final stir so that it is all mixed up well.

You can add anything more to this . I sometimes add bell peppers, carrots, peanuts . Sometimes i substitute the chicken with a salmon or 2-3 sardines. Sometimes i substitute the cabbage with cauliflower.

You can mix and match anything but this will be one nutritious meal with loads of proteins to keep you from getting hungry and enough fibre for a day by adding a couple of teaspoons of flax seeds or chia seeds.
